NLX + OpenAI Common Q&As

Answers to our most common questions about the out-of-the-box integration with ChatGPT.

What is ChatGPT?
CBS News gives one of the best explainers on this hot tech - ChatGPT is a free artificial intelligence chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. ChatGPT, which stands for "chat generative pre-trained transformer," can offer queries on everything from complicated math problems to parenting advice to writing computer code.

If you’d like to go deeper into what ChatGPT is, we suggest checking out these resources and playing with it for yourself:

How could ChatGPT impact businesses?
ChatGPT is having many impacts on businesses of all industries and sizes. From colleges and universities challenged by students turning in papers written by ChatGPT to marketers depending on the tool to create ads, email campaigns, and everything else in between, there are a lot of innovative ways that this new technology can impact various functions of a business.

How it impacts your business specifically depends on which departments might consider using it, how your customers, partners, suppliers, etc. might use it, and so on.

What’s the difference between NLX and ChatGPT?
Key differences:

  • NLX is a conversational AI platform that allows you to build, manage, and analyze automated, multimodal, chat, and voice conversations. In other words, the NLX platform can be leveraged to build conversational applications such as ChatGPT, since NLX has been built to integrate with technologies like GPT-3, the model behind ChatGPT.
  • ChatGPT is a pre-trained chatbot that leverages some of the latest advancements in Natural Language Processing and Understanding (NLP/NLU), specifically through the GPT-3 model, to come up with answers (much like Google does). ChatGPT cannot be used standalone to design and build production-grade chat, voice, and multimodal conversations, which is where NLX provides value.
  • Additionally, NLX supports a wide range of conversational interactions, including multimodal and voice, as opposed to just chat.

In short, NLX leverages technologies like GPT-3, the machine learning model behind ChatGPT, to drive better conversational experiences, be it through better intent identification, better fallback management, or through auto-generating training phrases and responses during the design process.

What is NLX doing with ChatGPT to help my business?
NLX has an existing OpenAI integration with their GPT-3 Large Language Model (LLM), the innovation behind ChatGPT. GPT-3 is what gives ChatGPT the wide knowledge base and rich conversational capabilities. As part of this integration, GPT-3 can be leveraged to provide a number of capabilities including:

  • Providing more accurate intent identification - Due to the massive training data set that the GPT-3 model and ChatGPT, respectively, were trained on, it can be leveraged to provide more accurate intent detection with minimal training compared to traditional NLP providers.
  • Fallback Management - If the bot does not redirect the user to the appropriate intent, GPT-3 can provide a response but, due to the unpredictable nature of Generative AI responses (such as ChatGPT’s), we provide additional guardrails to provide more control to our enterprise customers. Despite its experimental state in the industry, given the interest in ChatGPT, we are enabling this feature nonetheless so that curious customers can experiment with it.

In the near future, NLX is also planning to leverage GPT-3 capabilities to generate training data, increase conversation-build efficiency, and more. (Stay tuned!)

When will the integration be available?
NLX’s integration with OpenAI, the creators of GPT-3 and ChatGPT, respectively, is available today for “Fallback Management”. Additional capabilities will be available later in Q1 and Q2 2023. Businesses can contact our sales team today if they would like to learn more.

When should ChatGPT not be used?
Brands should be wary that ChatGPT’s answers are not curated or controlled by the brand, so it has less value in task-oriented or FAQ settings. Safeguarding against incorrect ChatGPT answers should be considered as part of the brand’s larger strategy and how it could impact the business. Furthermore, brands should consider the benefits and risks of ChatGPT being a black box solution, meaning the algorithms are not reviewable nor understandable from an information design perspective.
