NLX’s Intern Perspective

Throughout the course of the ten-week summer internship program, our interns worked on projects that aided our Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Design teams, while also learning about all facets of the NLX team from marketing to sales to product design. Before they embark on their next adventures, I’m shining a spotlight on their thoughts about their experience working at NLX.

Earlier this summer I wrote about the new class of interns joining the NLX team, and I’m proud to share the program has been a great success all around. Throughout the course of the ten-week summer internship program, our interns worked on projects that aided our Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Design teams, while also learning about all facets of the NLX team from marketing to sales to product design. They crafted brand awareness strategies, built plugins for our products, aided in several launches, and increased audience engagement through our social channels.

We really enjoyed having them as part of the team, and next week is sadly their last week. So before they embark on their next adventures, I’m shining a spotlight on their thoughts about their experience working at NLX. Here’s what they have to say:

What was your favorite part of this internship?

“My favorite part of this internship was to get an opportunity to own our project as interns and deliver impactful work. Everyone around here is super helpful and helped me hone my skills as an engineer. Furthermore, I wasn't only limited to the technical sphere but also got a chance to gain insights into the company's day-to-day functioning on the business side as well!” - Rashi Dhir, Software Engineering Intern

“I looked forward to the donut notification every Wednesday for my assigned lunch buddy of the week! Even though this internship took place virtually, I still felt connected to the other interns and the rest of the NLX team through initiatives such as the lunch buddy to meet different team members for a quick 30-minute chat every week.” - Wendy Huang, Marketing Intern

What did you learn from this internship?
“I learned the value of being part of a team. Despite working remotely, everyone contributed to the project in order to create something that no one of us could have accomplished by ourselves. By leaning on each other’s expertise, we went above and beyond the scope of the imagination.”  - Max English, Software Engineering Intern

“I am learning so much from this internship! I have learned how important it is to reach out to other members of a team to ask for help as soon as you need it, and that people at NLX are always willing to lend a hand. I have loved being involved in little check-ins and Product Syncs because, while I am usually just shadowing, it’s nice to see how employees interact so causally but still do phenomenal work! I also learned so much about the highs and lows of getting a startup off the grounds, which has been so valuable.” - Kyra McLaughlin, Design Intern

What did you gain from working on projects?
“When it came to the creative projects, I had the liberty of designing them the way I wanted to initially, but once feedback came in, I had to figure out how to adjust my work to fulfill the vision of both myself and others while staying in alignment with NLX’s brand voice and guidelines. This was a valuable skill that I am super grateful for learning here.” - JinMei Merchant, Marketing Intern

“First, I learned a new subject I never knew before: conversational design. Second, I also learned to value connection more because I never know from whom I will need help in the future. Lastly, I learned to learn continuously from my conversation with several employees during my time here.” - Monika Sembiring, Product Management Intern

Thank you again to JinMei Merchant, Wendy Huang, Monika Sembiring, Max English, Kyra McLaughlin, and Rashi Dhir for joining NLX this summer.

We appreciate all the hard work and creativity that you all have put into your respective projects over the past ten weeks and we wish you the best in your future endeavors!
